The Stone Harbor and North Wildwood fire departments responded to the Hereford Inlet for a water rescue at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, the Stone Harbor firefighters union said in a Facebook post. Firefighters received a report that a dog named Bruno was swimming far from shore and in distress.
A boat crew went to the inlet and quickly found Bruno struggling to swim in the tide. Rescuers got him on a jet ski and reunited Bruno with his owner on the beach in North Wildwood.
Dogs are allowed on North Wildwood's beaches whenever lifeguards aren't on duty, according to the website for the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority. North Wildwood also has a dog park on the east side of the beach at 24th Avenue.
A $10 permit is required for the dog park and it's open from 8 a.m. until sunset.
